BAY HARBOR — At the end of this year’s “Rai$ing Green for Kids” July fundraiser, the Christ Child Society of Northern Michigan is expected to surpass the $1 million mark in money raised for kids during the past seven years. All of the money goes toward the support of area children organization officials said.

With an evening of dinner and music, the 37th annual Christ Child Society’s major fundraiser is set for 6 p.m. on July 28 at the Lange Center at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. Featuring music by Pete Kehoe, dinner and cocktails and a view of the bay, the highlight of the evening will be both a silent and live auction.

The fundraiser will mean more support for every child in need and a call to action for Christ Child Society members and the community, organization officials said. Society members help address these needs all year long by providing support in the way of: a warm winter coat, layettes for newborns and a diaper pantry, a hand-made blanket, new school shoes and books, tutoring in area schools with books for the children to keep and take home, nutritious food to take home for the weekend, a backpack stuffed with school supplies, a new holiday toy and gifts and much more. Christ Child Society also provides special support to Wolverine Schools and Camp Quality and Spirit Camp.

This annual fundraiser is the main support for the funds needed to provide these services and items. With more than $950,000 raised during the last six years, Christ Child Society of Northern Michigan is poised to exceed the $1 million mark.

Items up for bid include: A pig roast for up to 30 people on Walloon Lake; a chance to go to the top of the Mackinac Bridge; a Park City, Utah, ski week vacation including condo and airfare voucher; a Hemingway discussion and dinner hosted by Ernest Hemingway’s nephew and his wife; a Charlevoix package including two nights at the new Hotel Earl, golf, air sightseeing tour and a cocktail cruise; and a one-of-a-kind custom PEcado men’s travel duffle bag by designer Alone Kelly. And the signature piece of the auction will be The Red Wagon “Prestige” package of “Games People Play,” which includes a huge assortment of lawn and board games plus Adirondack chairs and table and a special table for eight at next year’s Christ Child gala fundraiser.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $200 each and can be purchased through the Christ Child Society of Northern Michigan’s website at www.christchildsocietynorthernmichigan.com or by calling (231) 526-7271. If you are unable to attend, a donation in any amount would be welcome.
